The Entire Church Family Together In Ministry
The word “tithe” literally means tenth or ten-percent. Tithing or giving ten percent of your income, isn’t merely giving something to God. It’s giving back what was his to begin with. All we have, or hope to have, comes from him. The Bible says that tithing is a reminder that God is the supplier of everything. It teaches us to always put God first in our lives. Tithing is a statement of our thanksgiving, a statement of our praise to God, and a statement of our faith.
Beyond the tithe is an offering; anything you give beyond ten percent. In Malachi 3:10, God says “Go ahead….I dare you. See if you can out give me.” It is your chance to be exceedingly generous in giving back to the one who first gave for you.
Tithes and offerings are the means that God set forth to support the church, help those in need, and to bring blessings into our lives, as we give back to the one who first gave for us. It isn't that God wants money; what He wants is our hearts.
